Getting started

  1. Create your church. Go to sundayonpurpose.com/app, choose Create account, then enter your church name. You become the Admin.
  2. Add your logo. Settings, then Church. Upload one logo for light mode and, if you like, a white version for dark mode. Drag a file onto its box or click Upload. The tips there explain which kind of logo looks best.
  3. Add your people. People, then Add person. Enter a name, email and role. They get an email invite right away.
  4. Volunteer links. A volunteer's personal link shows who assigned each task and who else is helping.
  5. Leave a board out of the Sunday readiness percentage. On any shared board, uncheck "Counts toward Sunday readiness" at the top. Its tasks stay on the board and in your lists, but are left out of the percentage and counts on Home.
  6. Planning Center. Admins: open People, then Planning Center, then Connect. After that, Sync now brings in new people as volunteers. You can limit it to people who served in the last 6 months. Anyone already here is skipped, nobody gets an invite email, and people who leave Planning Center are marked inactive, not deleted.
  7. Two-step sign-in. In Settings, choose Two-step sign-in, scan the picture with an authenticator app on your phone, and type the 6-digit code. After that, signing in also asks for a code. Recommended for Admins and Staff.
  8. Search and filter People. On the People page, type in the search box to find someone by name or email, use the role menu to show only Admins, Staff, Team Leaders or Volunteers, and the Sort menu to order by role or by name.
  9. Who assigned it. Every task shows who assigned it, and notifications and emails say "Dana assigned you a task" so you know who to ask.
  10. All my tasks. The Home page lists every open task assigned to you, even when it is not due before Sunday. If others share a task, you will see "With" and their names.
  11. Assign more than one person. In a task, pick people from Assigned to one at a time. Each shows as a name chip, and the × removes them. Everyone you add gets an email and a bell notification, and the task shows up in each person's My tasks.
  12. Add someone while assigning a task. In a task, open Assigned to and choose Add someone new. Enter their name and email. They are added as a volunteer and emailed a link to the task. Admins, Staff and Team Leaders can all do this.
  13. Import a list of people. On the People page, click Import and choose a spreadsheet (CSV) with a Name and an Email column, such as a Planning Center export. Anyone already in your church is skipped, so there are no duplicates, and no emails are sent during the import.
  14. Who can add whom. Admins can add anyone. Staff can add Team Leaders and Volunteers. Team Leaders can add Volunteers only.
  15. Create your volunteer teams. Open the menu, click the + next to Volunteer teams, and pick a template such as Cafe or Greeters to start with a weekly task list.
  16. Add tasks. Open a board, type a task and press Enter. Click the task to set an owner and a due date.

The Get started card on your Home page tracks these steps for you.

Who can do what

Admins, Staff and Team Leaders are the paid seats after the pilot. Volunteers are always free.

Boards

Each board can be viewed as a List, a Board (drag cards between columns), a Calendar or a Dashboard.

Working with tasks

The Home page

Home shows your next Sunday, the percent of tasks that are ready, what is overdue or stuck, tasks with no owner, and progress by team. Use it as your Sunday-morning check.

For volunteers

Volunteers do not sign up or install anything. Open the link from your invite email on your phone to see your tasks, change a status, check off steps, post an update and add your due dates to your calendar. Save the link or bookmark it. If you lose it, ask your church leader to resend it.

Notifications and email

The bell shows what is new: new assignments, updates, mentions and finished tasks. You also get an email for each, a reminder the day before a task is due, and a weekly summary on Monday morning.
